As a healthcare working mom, I know the struggle of trying to balance work, family, and personal health. It can be overwhelming to manage a chronic illness or condition that doesn't seem to be improving. It's easy to feel helpless and dependent on doctors and medication. 

I know these challenges because I have been there, too...

1. Change Your Mindset

The first step in reclaiming your power over your health is to shift your mindset. Instead of viewing your condition as an obstacle, reframe it as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Approach your healthcare team as partners rather than authority figures. Together, you can work towards finding the best treatment plan for you.

2. Take Control of Your Lifestyle

Remember that small changes can make a big impact on your overall health... and nowhere are those changes more powerful than your lifestyle!

Make choices that support your well-being, such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and managing stress. Incorporate self-care practices that bring you joy, such as reading, meditating, or taking a relaxing bath. 


3. Consider Alternative Therapies

While medication and traditional medical treatments can be beneficial, alternative therapies can also be beneficial in managing chronic illness or conditions. Holistic treatments such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, and herbal medicine can complement traditional treatments and alleviate symptoms. As with any treatment, it's important to consult with your healthcare team before starting any alternative therapy.


4. Connect With Others

Dealing with illness can be isolating. Connecting with others who share similar experiences can help you feel less alone and offer support. 

Joining a support group or community (like this one) can provide a safe space to discuss your struggles and triumphs. You can also learn from others and gain insight into alternative treatments or lifestyle changes that have worked for them.


5. TRUST IN GOD'S GUIDANCE

As a Christian, I firmly believe in trusting in God with our lives. He can use our struggles for a greater purpose and healing can come in unexpected ways. 

Lean on your faith and pray for guidance and strength for what to do for your health. God can provide comfort and peace in the midst of physical pain and emotional turmoil.


Reclaiming your power over your health is possible, no matter how overwhelming your current condition may feel. Changing your mindset, taking control of your lifestyle, considering alternative therapies, connecting with others, and trusting in God's guidance can all contribute to a happier, healthier life.
